Requesting training for your professional development is straightforward through the tomHRM system. The more detailed your request, the faster it will be processed and the better it will match your learning needs.
Getting Started
- Navigate to My Development in the left menu
- Click Request new training in the top right corner
- Complete the training request form
Request Form Options
You can structure your training request in two ways:
Option 1: General Training Need
- Describe your development goals in your own words
- Select competencies you want to improve
- Let your organisation source appropriate training solutions
Option 2: Specific Training Programme
- Specify a particular course or training provider
- Include programme details such as dates, location, and cost
- Request approval for external training
Key Form Fields
- Competencies (Optional) – Select from your organisation’s competency framework to specify which skills need development
- Subject Area (Optional) – Provide additional context about the training topic
- Send Request To – Choose your approval route based on your company’s approval process:
Option 1: Your Manager- Request goes to your direct manager first
- After manager approval, it’s forwarded to HR for final processing
- Suitable for training that requires manager input on business relevance
Option 2: HR Department
- Request goes directly to the HR team
- Faster processing for standard training requests
- Ideal for compliance training or standard development programmes
What Happens Next
Immediate Actions
- Email notification sent to your chosen reviewer
- Request tracking begins in your development dashboard
- Status updates appear in your request list with automatic email notifications when decisions are made

Where to Find Your Requests
All your training requests are accessible in My Development > My Requests
Managing Active Requests
For unprocessed requests, you can:
- Cancel requests that are no longer needed
- View current status and approval progress
- Add additional information if requested
To cancel a request:
- Find the request in your list
- Click the three dots menu in the request row
- Select “Cancel”
- Confirm cancellation
Note: Cancelled requests will not be processed further and cannot be recovered.
Request Status Guide
Status | Description | What It Means |
---|---|---|
Pending | Initial status upon submission | Under review by assigned approver |
Approved by Manager | Manager has approved your request | Now awaiting HR review |
Approved by HR | HR has approved your request | Training arrangement will begin |
Rejected | Request has been declined | Review feedback and consider resubmitting |
Cancelled | Request has been withdrawn | No further action will be taken |
